Foster Grandparents

Foster Grandparent Program provides intergenerational opportunities for seniors age 55 and above to "at risk" children in schools, hospitals, drug treatment centers, Head Start and Early Head Start Centers, and child development centers. The heart of the program is the one-on-one daily attention the Foster Grandparents provide. In improving the lives of the children they serve, Foster Grandparents also profoundly enrich their own lives.

Foster Grandparent Program is sponsored by Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity, Inc. The Foster Grandparent Program is funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service/Senior Corps, and the Illinois Department on Aging.

If you are at least 55 years of age, meet certain income eligibility requirements, love children, and are willing to volunteer 20 to 40 hours a week, you can apply to become a Foster Grandparent.

What benefits do Foster Grandparents earn

  • Tax-free bi-weekly stipend to cover the cost of serving.
  • Transportation to and from home
  • Reimbursement for transportation if they drive
  • A daily meal
  • Supplemental accident and liability coverage while they are serving
